Anchor text weight in the rel="nofollow" tag test.

In the last nofollow test, we've seen that search engines ignore pages pointed by such tag. I am now conducting another investigation, this time related to the anchor text. I want to see if the text in nofollow links have any importance for rankings.

To take the test, I need one already indexed page, and point to it with nofollow links that have one random anchor string.

First, let's get the nofollow anchor test target indexed.

In a couple of days, after it has been spidered for indexing, I will link to it via the Navigation panel but with rel='nofollow'. This should give it enough strenght to rank for the unique text I will place at the anchors.

  5. 00.000.00.00 - - [18/Sep/2007:11:25:00 +0200] - Searching for the above nofollow-link text does not return the target itself but only the pages that link with it. Also, because this page (rel_nofollow_anchor_text_test.html) contains two anchors to the target, it's the first result that shows up in for the term: N0F0LL0VV4NCH0R1SH34VY

Test Results

  1. Google does not value the anchor of nofollow links.
  2. Yahoo doesn't value them eather.
  3. MSN is too weak.
