Overclocked ATI Mobility Radeon on FUJITSU SIEMENS notebook
Today I decided to overclock my ATI Radeon x300 in order to see the performance gain in benchmarks.
My computer is a FUJITSU SIEMENS - AMILO Pro V2045 laptop (notebook) with the following specifications:
- CPU Intel Pentium M 1729 MHz (Centrino 740)
- FSB 533 MHz
- Memory 510 MB
- Graphics Chipset ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
- Video Memory 64 MB
- Core Clock 297 MHz
- Memory Clock 230 MHz
- On AC power
- The rest is not relevant in the tests.
I used
3DMark03 Revision 6 Build 0.
1) “Out of the box”, with dynamic switching , and no frequency tweaks, the system performed 2687 3DMarks and CPU Score 767 CPUMarks.
The Centrino 740 is able to dynamically lower its frequency in order to save battery power. Frequency varies form 800Mhz ( 6x, 988Volts ) to 1732Mhz (13x, 1356V ). Default laptop settings leave the processor in Dynamic Switching between frequencies on both AC or Battery mode.
2) In the second test I have overrided the dynamic switching setting to Maximum Performance. This means that I have locked the 1732Mhz frequency. The system performance increased at 2960 3DMarks and 659 CPUMarks. In my opinion this overriding tweak is harmless to the processor.
3) I have increased the graphic processor frequency and video memory frequency form 300Mhz / 230Mhz to 320Mhz / 245Mhz, locked 1732Mhz processor frequency. It scored 3131 3DMarks & 725 CPUMarks.
4) Increasing the graphics frequencies to 350Mhz / 280Mhz increased the performance to 3483 3DMarks, 724 CPUMarks. The rendering speed was noticeable. You can view the result here (you may require to login)
Although the laptop (notebook) graphics was overclocked, it did not overheat more than in the default state.

Hi,
I came across your site through Google Blog Search. I’m about to buy the same model. Could you please tell me if I should be cautious with anything? Are you satisfied with it?
Thanks a lot,
Norbert

I have bought the laptop online at the price of $1330 (US Dollars) because it had the best performance for that price. I also liked that it didn’t have Windows XP in the package because I don’t want to pay for something that I already have :).
When it arrived, i didn’t like the casing. The LCD frame has flaws (example: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/8606.jpg - this is not the same model but it’s the same flaw. Mine can fit 1 CD in between, not 3). Also the LCD has the down-left and down-right edges a little bit darker (0,2cm in size each). The other problem is that it heats up while playing games like doom3(ex:1280×800 medium detail). I don’t know if this heating is normal with other laptops. Overall I’m OK (partially satisfied) with the laptop given the fact that the same CPU/ram/HDD/Video laptop would of cost more but some flaws are not acceptable. Just check that the LCD and it’s casing are OK when you buy it. The rest should be good.
